A man who attacked his ex-partner, leaving her scarred for life and fearing further violence, has been warned he could receive a prison sentence.
Craig Boyd, 32, had knocked back a bottle of vodka, a bottle of wine and several bottles of lager while at the woman’s Carlisle home on July 1.
In the early hours of the morning, city magistrates heard, Boyd “flipped” and struck the woman a single, powerful blow to her head.
She recalled sharp and horrible pain, and felt bones in her face were broken.
The woman — said to be highly intoxicated herself when attending hospital for treatment — suffered a swollen nose, a swollen forehead and eyebrow laceration which was glued.
In an impact statement, she spoke of being left scarred for life, and having both moved house and changed her phone number. “When I leave the house I do always carry the fear in the back of mind that he will approach or come after me again,” she added.
In court, Boyd, previously of Castle Foundry, Penrith, and now of Meadow View, Carlisle, admitted actual bodily harm assault and was said by his solicitor to have “very much regretted” his offence.
Magistrates ordered the preparation of a probation service pre-sentence report. Boyd’s case was adjourned, he was bailed until December 20 but warned all sentencing options — including a prison sentence — would be considered.
