TransPennine Express is expanding its number of services due to increased demand.

Extra services between Scotland and Manchester provide more choices for passengers ahead of the festive period.

From December 12 passengers travelling from Carlisle to Manchester Airport, via Penrith, Oxenholme, Lancaster, Preston and Manchester stations can benefit from two services every hour between 6.22am and 8.30pm.

Extra services will also be available between Carlisle and Penrith to Scotland.

For the first time, a Nova 1 train will also be making its debut on the route, joining the Nova 2 fleet that already operates between the North West and Scotland. Together these trains offer an enhanced travelling experience for customers, with spacious interiors, plenty of legroom, free Wi-Fi in both standard and first class as well as access to onboard entertainment system, Exstream.

Jerry Farquharson, Service Planning Director for TransPennine Express said: “With more and more people returning to rail and the festive season just around the corner, the reintroduction of an hourly TPE service between the North West and Scotland is great news for customers.

“Services on this route are very popular and I would encourage those intending to travel by train to plan their journeys in advance and book ahead.”
