The Westmorland Orchestra is hoping to repeat the success of its last Christmas concert.
Tickets for young people and full-time students are free, as they always are, and the programme is one not to be missed, organisers say.
“Because some of our plans had to be postponed we thought that for this concert we would serve a jolly good Christmas feast of music,” conductor Richard Howarth said.
“Our leader Pam Redman will play the very popular Bruch Violin Concerto and we will surround it with lots of seasonal tunes!”
To open the concert the orchestra will be playing the Christmas Overture by Coleridge-Taylor; also included in the concert will be a selection from Bizet’s Carmen, Rossini’s overture The Barber of Seville and more festive music from Leroy Anderson and Philip Lane.
It may be the Bruch Violin Concerto that steals the show – the piece has been played and recorded countless times and is one of Bruch’s best-known works – it has topped the Classic FM Hall of Fame many years.
“We are very excited to be back playing together and looking forward to performing in Kendal again for the first time since December 2019; many people already know and love the magic of a live orchestra, I think this programme and the timing of the concert, 3 o’clock on a Sunday afternoon, is an opportunity for even more people to come and enjoy a fabulous concert,” said Chair of the orchestra, Georgina Perkins.
The Westmorland Orchestra concert is at 3pm on December 12, at the Kendal Leisure Centre.
