Police in West Cumbria seized four e-scooters in a crackdown on their illegal use.
Cumbria police say they continue to receive complaints about the use of e-scooters in West Cumbria and they are continuing to “proactively target the illegal use of them”.
Officers seized four e-scooters last month, which were being used illegally on the road without insurance.
It is currently against the law to ride a private e-scooter in a public place. They are classified as Personal Light Electric Vehicles. Therefore, they are subject to the same legal requirements as motor vehicles. It is not currently possible to get appropriate insurance for privately owned e-scooters, meaning it is illegal to use them on the road or in public spaces.
E-scooters are also potentially dangerous to riders offering less protection than a motor vehicle and could cause injury to other members of the public with some reaching speeds of over 30mph.
