Whitehaven Rugby League Club is to do its bit this year for members of the community who are feeling lonely at Christmas.

They are putting on a free Christmas lunch at the LEL Arena on Christmas Day especially for those who face being alone midst the festivities.

A spokesman for the club said: “Christmas is a joyous time for most of us, however, for some it can be a time where they feel isolated.

“As a result, this year Whitehaven RLFC are going to be putting on a Christmas lunch at the ground, free of charge, for anyone who wishes to spend a few hours in the company of others that are in a similar position of not having anyone to share the day with.

“We will be putting together a Christmas lunch for anyone who contacts the club, via its social media pages, club office or through another means possible by Thursday, December 23.”

So far, Whitehaven have only announced one pre-season warm-up game, at Derwent Park against Workington Town on Sunday, January 16 a fortnight before the new Championship season opens with a tough trip to Leigh Centurions.
