Jessie Joe Parker is to take on a new role as coach of the Hensingham club, whose first team play in the National Conference Division Three.
The veteran Papua New Guinea international had announced his retirement at the end of the season after giving sterling service to Whitehaven.
There were reports that he would take up a playing role with Egremont last month but that did not reach fruition and now Hensingham have formally announced his appointment.
The Hensingham club tweeted: “Jessie shares our vision of building on the club’s successful youth and learning together as we go forward into a new National Conference League season.
“Training will be Tuesdays 7pm to 8pm and Thursday 6pm to 7pm at the Copeland Athletic Stadium starting this Tuesday.”
Parker, who has settled locally, comes into the club at a time when it has a hugely talented and successful under 16s squad who will provide valuable additions to the senior side over the next two years – although several are coveted by professional clubs.
The 36-year-old Parker first came to Britain when he joined Featherstone in 2010 when he scored 17 tries in 15 games.

He joined Whitehaven in 2012 and went on to make 203 appearances, scoring 96 tries and was granted a testimonial.
Hensingham will have West Cumbrian company in Division Three as Seaton Rangers have just been elected to the competition.
