Local Friends of the Earth members protested today about the UK’s support for a mega-gas project in Mozambique.
Friends of the Earth is taking the Government to court over this support for fossil fuels, which they believe is contrary to the UK’s Climate Change obligations.
The group were at Workington MP Mark Jenkinson’s office in Maryport and handed in a letter explaining why FoE is taking the Government to court over this and urging him to tell Prime Minister Boris Johnson to withdraw its $1.15bn pledge for this fossil-fuel project.
Two of the local campaign group members have personal connections to the area where the gas field is proposed. Clare Brown has lived and worked for many years in Mozambique and knows the area and its people well. Ruth Balogh has two teenage granddaughters whose father comes from Cabo Delgado, the area where it would be sited.
