A Whitehaven ‘nuisance’ who assaulted a female shop worker and, later, two lone women in the town centre, has been jailed.
Carlo Raymond Bone, 36, committed his first crime in B&M Bargains on July 29 while under the influence, Carlisle Crown Court heard today.
Bone became angry when asked if he was planning to pay of a packet of chicken from which he was eating.
He then lurched towards the employee, pointing his finger and saying: “Watch yourself, I’m going to smash your head in.
”That left the woman even more anxious than she was previously, needing stronger medication and the help of colleagues to walk back to her car after shifts.”
On the lunchtime of September 9, intoxicated Bone committed assaults on two lone female strangers in Whitehaven town centre.
He walked up to one and made a grab for her handbag, leaving her feeling alarmed and distressed.
Drunken Bone then approached a second woman, grabbing her upper arm and pulling her in the opposite direction.
Prosecutor Gerard Rogerson said of the impact: “She describes herself feeling completely terrified.”
Bone admitted three common assaults committed in breach of a suspended jail term.
This was imposed for assaulting a police officer who believed he would be spat at by Bone last year after he claimed to be coronavirus positive.
Mr Rogerson asked for Bone, of Queen Street, Whitehaven, to be given a tough criminal behaviour order “to prevent him from continuing to be a perpetual thorn in the side of the people of Whitehaven”.
Judge Richard Archer agreed, ordering the order to run indefinitely.
Jailing Bone for a total of 19 weeks, Judge Archer said of his town centre assaults: “These offences in particular were committed against a background (of concern), of which you must be aware, for the safety of lone females who are approached by males on the street or going about their lawful business.”
