Workington Reds appeal for help to restore pitch

Borough Park pitch

Workington Reds are desperately trying to have their Borough Park pitch playable for Saturday’s scheduled home game with Kidsgrove Athletic.

It was left in a poor state after last Tuesday’s 2-2 home draw with Bootle, played in atrocious weather conditions.

The club has appealed for volunteers to go to the club if they can help for a couple of hours to restore the pitch.

Reds have not played on the previous two Saturdays – firstly having a free week and then being hit by a postponement when the City of Liverpool pitch was passed fit.

Leading NPL West promotion rivals Marine have prospered in the meantime, winning 3-1 against Runcorn Linnets last night to go seven points clear of the Cumbrians, with both now having played the same number of games.

The two are split by Warrington Rylands who have played a game more than both, and are a point ahead of the Reds. Clitheroe are just twoi points behind the Cumbrians from the same number of games.

Reds officials have brought in specialist equipment to try and improve the surface of the Borough Park pitch, and have also been studying the long range weather forecast between now and Saturday.

Light rain later today, but clear Thursday and even sunshine on Friday suggests Reds should win their battle to be in action on Saturday.

After Saturday they have only one more game this year, the derby game with Kendal Town at Parkside Road on Monday, December 27.
