Barrow are through to the third round of the FA Cup after a thoroughly deserved 2-0 replay win over Ipswich Town.
Both goals came in the first half when Barrow were much the better side.
Jordan Stevens was on the end of a planned training move from a corner and a deflected shot found the net on 26 minutes,
Then nine minutes later a fine, driven cross from the right was knocked back in from the left and Robbie Gotts had time to pick his spot and fire home.
Ipswich had rarely looked capable of mounting an attacking threat in the first half with caretaker manager John McGreal making nine changes from the side which drew at Wigan on Saturday.
The visitors certainly showed more intent in the second period and home keeper Paul Farman had to make saves – something he hadn’t in the first.
Sam Norsy and Joe Pigott both worked the Barrow keeper and James Norwood, who had scotred five goals in his career against Barrow for Stockport, poked his best chance wide of the mark.
In the main Barrow were content to contain what Town could throw at them and they managed the game very well.
They did look capable of snatching another on the break, but for the most part defended solidly and capably.
Ipswich legend Terry Butcher, who was covering the game as part of the ITV commentary team summed it up best when he said: “You wouldn’t have though Ipswich were from League One and Barrow were the League Two side.”
Barrow will now go to Championship strugglers Barnsley on January 8 when they will be bidding to reach the fourth round for the first time.
