A video circulating on social media sites has resulted in two arrests, police said.
The video, shot by a motorist on Murray Road, shows a fight spilling out across the street between Specsavers and Lloyds bank.
The video was shared hundreds of times across social media sites.
It is believed to happened yesterday. The last Friday before Christmas is traditionally called Mad Friday in West Cumbria.
A statement from Allerdale police said: “In relation to a video of violence in Workington town centre, two arrests have been made for assaults and drug possession offences.
“We will not tolerate drunken disorder this festive period.”
