A leading Cumbrian baker is showing solidarity with industry colleagues by supporting the county’s new food awards.
Patrick Moore, founder and head baker at More? The Artisan Bakery, said he understood first-hand what businesses have been through over the last two years.
He hopes to give his fellow food and drink and hospitality businesses a lift by sponsoring the Restaurant of the Year category at the Cumbria Food Awards.
More? is based at Staveley Mill Yard near Kendal and includes a busy café. Patrick has pivoted the business during the pandemic by launching More? Dough stonebaked pizzas and focusing on retail sales at the bakery.
Patrick said: “Everyone in the hospitality industry has had a tough time over the last couple of years. I know from our own experience how difficult things have been and how we’ve had to work really hard at More? to make sure we pulled through.
“We wanted to back the Cumbria Food Awards to support our friends in the industry. We’ve won awards over the years and we know that they can really help a business with PR and industry recognition.
“We can’t wait to see who’s shortlisted for Restaurant of the Year and celebrate with everyone on the night.”
Patrick is a former chef who is driven by an ambition to produce additive-free long-process breads and baked goods which are full of flavour and nutritional value.
The bakery has been a long-term supplier of Tebay Services and featured in the recent Channel 4 series, A Lake District Farm Shop, which attracted millions of viewers.
The film crew revisited Patrick and the bakery for a special Christmas episode, focusing on their award-winning mince pies.
More? has a track record of awards success and holds 19 Great Taste gold awards.
The More? gluten free Muddee chocolate brownie was named Supreme Champion at the Great Taste Awards 2009 and the bakery’s Treacle Bread was crowned Best Speciality Bread at the Baking Industry Awards 2010.
Patrick works with consumer organisation Which? as bread expert.
