Many of Cumbria’s hospitality businesses rely on Shortridge to provide top class laundry services.
The firm is returning the favour by backing its customers and sponsoring the Hotel Restaurant of the Year category at the Cumbria Food Awards.
Serving businesses from hostels to Michelin-starred venues and top-rated hotels, Shortridge is one of the biggest providers of its type, offering a rental and laundry service for table linen, bedding and towels.
With an HQ and factory at Lilyhall in West Cumbria, another factory in Dumfries and a depot at Darlington, Shortridge has 1,600 customers and handles more than 500,000 pieces of laundry each week.
The firm has a workforce of up to 200 at peak periods and has made extensive investment in the latest equipment, so is well placed to handle high volumes, while continuing to provide premium customer service and a high quality product.
The company’s history dates back to 1845 when it was founded in Dumfries. Since then, the business has developed and gone through a merger to become the major operation it is today.
MD Peter Semple said the firm was delighted to sponsor the Cumbria Food Awards: “Shortridge has been around in the area for a long time and we’re a well-known brand. The people who will be receiving the awards are our customer base and the people we serve and support, so we feel we should be visible and support the industry. And after the last two years, it will be good to turn up on the night and actually see one another.
