Workington Conservative Club narrowed the gap on Division One leaders Station Road B to two points in the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League.
They moved to within touching distance after recording a 4-1 home victory over Division Two’s Maryport Social.
The victory aside, the match started in the best possible fashion for the Maryport outfit as Ben Scott defeated the previously unbeaten Julian Plaza with a fantastic first frame performance.
Frame two saw normal service resumed as Ryan Barker squared up the match score, and with team-mate Alan Moore taking the next in similar fashion the Cons Club went 2-1 ahead.
A relatively close game in the next went in favour of Stuart Shepherd and with Richard McCarthy taking the last in convincing fashion a 4-1 Cons match win was delivered.
Cons sit on 29 points in Division One with Maryport Social remaining bottom of Division Two on 7 points.
Workington’s Station Road A left their fellow Division One adversaries Workington Golf Club stunned as, with three black ball victories, they oversaw a 4-1 home win.
A first frame-winning performance produced a round nine best break of 47 from Ryan Ismay to put the Golf Club 1-0 up, however with a black ball win from Station A’s Darren Lawson in the next the first painful blow was struck.
Another victory on the final ball, this time from Chris Hunter, put Station A 2-1 in front and even though Mike Walker delivered a routine victory for 3-1 an unprecedented third black ball win was the final nail in the coffin as Geoff Smith sent the Golfers home in disbelief.
The victory moves Station A off the bottom of the Division One table into fourth on 20 points and the Golf Club stay in third, also in Division One, on 23 points.
Division One top team Station Road B delivered their sixth league win in a row, however they didn’t have it all their own way as they defeated fellow top tier opponents Workington Veterans Club A by the odd frame, 3-2.
The away win started with a battling victory by Simon Frazer, and in a welcome return to league action from team mate Mark Tunstall he doubled the match lead for a 2-0 Station B advantage.
The third frame pitted the top two players in the Division One averages against each other and with a re-spotted black required to split them it was Vets A captain Kevin Basnett who presided over Peter O’Hagan to pull one back.
The next saw an open contest go in the favour of Station B with a victory for Shaun Ayre but with a tenacious performance in the last Vets B reduced the final score-line in what was probably a fair result.
Workington’s Station B are top of Division One on 31 points, however, fellow townies Vets A drop to the bottom of the table on 20 points by a margin of fewer wins.
Finally, Workington’s Veterans Club B closed the gap on Division Two top side The United Club, to a single point, with a 3-2 away win against division rivals Whitehaven’s Rack Shack, 3-2.
A win for Vets B’s Sal Cakmak was soon cancelled out as Rack Shack captain Nev Stitt took the second. Nevertheless, Division Two’s leading player Shane Evitts put the Vets B side in front again with a commanding display in frame three for 2-1.
A low-scoring victory for the Rack Shack’s Adam Morilla ensured the match went to a decider but with brilliant captain’s performance from the in-form Geoff Banton it was Vets B who snatched the match victory to disappoint their hosts.
Vets B stay on 18 points and the Rack Shack on 13 points in a Division Two second and third place respectively.
