Barrow manager Mark Cooper is stepping up his effort to recruit a striker in the January transfer window after a goal-less draw with struggling Oldham.
He said after the game: “We’ve been working incredibly hard to find the right man for us and I will be on the phone first thing to step up the chase.
“It’s no secret I am looking to bring in a centre forward who can score us 10 goals between now and the end of the season.
“There’s no doubt that we should have won that game last night. Their goalkeeper was man of the match, making three incredible saves and we missed two good opportunities to score the crucial goal.
“We weren’t at our best, in difficult conditions, and to be fair we had four or five who weren’t at it as usual but we still did enough to win the game.
“There’s not much wrong with how we are defending but we have to be more ruthless at the other end of the field. That’s why a centre forward who can turn chances into goals is our number one priority in January.
“I am looking at brining in the best possible centre forward I can who is going to score the goals to get us up the table where we should be.”
Barrow also had a couple of more injury concerns to take the squad down to the bare bones again.
“Joe Grayson had to come off at half-time with an achilles problem and Robbie Gotts had a twinge before the game but said he was ok to play. We had to take him off during the second half so he’s probably made it worse and if he had the time again probably wouldn’t have played,” said Cooper.
Barrow are back in action on Saturday when they host Bradford City.
