A Carlisle man facing two domestic burglary allegations is to stand trial in front of a jury in the spring.
Sheldon Harley James O’Neil, 23, entered pleas of not guilty when both charges were put to him at the city’s crown court this morning.
Both allege that he entered dwellings at Dixon Court, Shaddongate, as a trespasser — on November 30 when a Mountain Warehouse jacket, mobile phone and a quantity of medication is said to have been stolen; and the following day when, it is alleged, there was an “intent to steal”.
O’Neil’s barrister outlined the issues he would seek to put forward at his trial. This is due to start at the crown court in the week of April 4.
Judge Nicholas Barker informed O’Neil — who appeared at today’s hearing over a video link — that he must with the help of his legal team submit a statement formally setting out his defence to the allegations.
This should also include any issues he takes with the prosecution case against him.
In the meantime, O’Neil, of Bousteads Grassing, Carlisle, was remanded in custody by the judge.
