On a cold January evening, friends and family of Natalie and Harry Kane came together to remember them.
In the pitch blackness of Maryport Promenade, around 70 people of all ages gathered to pay tribute in their own way to the 27-year-old and her one-year-old son, who were found dead on December 30.
Candles flickered in the biting wind and fireworks were let off into the starlit sky as people took a moment to reflect on what Natalie and Harry meant to them.
Friends held back tears and families, huddled against the cold, huddled that bit closer.
Balloons were released in her memory and there was 30 seconds of applause for the pair.
Shane Evitts, Natalie’s older brother, thanked everyone for gathering and said how grateful he and his family were to everyone in Maryport, Workington, Whitehaven and beyond, who had donated to a fund to help give the pair the best send-off possible.
The stoic 31-year-old – in between receiving condolences from friends and acquaintances – told Cumbria Crack that Natalie was the loveliest person ever and a great mother to Harry.
He said he it was amazing that the fund now stood at £7,120 and he could not thank people enough.
Natalie, who also has a sister, Zoe, 28, of Workington, was originally from Maryport and was a former pupil of Netherhall School.
Natalie and Harry were found at a property in Whitehaven on December 30.
Police attended an address in Wellington Row at about 2.50pm that day after concerns were raised about the welfare of Natalie.
Officers said there were no suspicious circumstances and the coroner has been informed.

The fund has been set up by friends of Natalie and they said any money left will be donated to Women Out West.
A statement from the group said: “All of us at Women Out West are absolutely heartbroken that our valued member Natalie and her beautiful son have died.
“Natalie was a wonderful mum and has been involved with WOW since the very beginning. Natalie volunteered her time to help clear out the unit where WOW stands today.
“Our thoughts are with Natalie’s friends and family and her Key worker, Nadine who worked closely with Natalie and Harry over the last year.
“Natalie touched the hearts of so many people. I will always remember her beaming smile and her wicked sense of humour.
“Most of all we will remember the love she had for Harry and how proud she was of him.
“We stand together with the loved ones of Natalie an d Harry and will do all we can to support them.
“We are also working with all other agencies and organisations as we come to terms with this terrible tragedy.”
