Workington have received international clearance for their new centre forward Scott Fenwick.

The 31-year-old former Hartlepool striker had last played in Scotland for Forfar Athletic so clearance had to be obtained before he could play again in England.

He will now be included in the Workington squad for tomorrow’s NPL West game at home to Glossop North End.

There had been growing concerns earlier in the week about the number of players suffering from Covid. It had been as high as five but reports from last night’s training suggested it was down to two and one of those was close to completing isolation.

Joining Reds in training following his release from Carlisle United has been teenage midfielder Keelan Leslie.

The youngster has already had a loan spell with the Reds and acquitted himself well in coming on for most of the games during his month at the club.

In fact, he got an early call against tomorrow’s opponents Glossop in the away fixture and had to fill in at left-back following an injury to Kieran Charlton.

Hoping to be back tomorrow will be Brad Carroll, one of the players struck low by Covid. Celebrating his 25th birthday with a return and a win against Glossop would be ideal.

Meanwhile, Glossop, who have 23 points from their 22 games and are 14th of 20 in NPL West, have announced a new signing.

North End, who drew 1-1 at home to Trafford last weekend, have recruited J’Nai Butterfield-Steede, a left-sided midfielder or full-back, who has previously played against Reds for Kendal Town.

He was signed for Kendal by former manager Chris Humphrey and when he moved to take over the vacant Penrith job he took Butterfield-Steede with him to the Northern League Club.

The 23-year-old, who was capped by Bermuda at youth level, has also played for Kidderminster and Ilkeston.
