CCTV and lighting will be installed in a West Cumbrian town’s park to combat anti-social behaviour.
Workington Town Council has announced it has been given cash by the Safer Streets Fund for Vulcan Park.
Since taking over the park from Allerdale Borough Council in 2018, the town council said it had received numerous complaints from people about dog fouling, anti-social behaviour and vandalism.
It added that it sometimes resulted in people fearing for their safety.
Councillor Hilary Harrington, chair of the council’s environment committee, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to secure this funding and can improve the safety of the park for all to enjoy.
“We do hope that residents will feel the benefits of the new lights and CCTV and encourage them to share their thoughts on these improvements with us via our website or social media.”
The town council was helped by the police and crime commissioner’s office and Cumbria County Council to secure the funding.
The CCTV project has been awarded £22,262.90, while lighting will be funded by the county council.
