Former Workington Town chairman Les Smallwood is back in the game after deciding to leave Derwent Park towards the end of last year.
Smallwood has gone back to his old amateur club Seaton Rangers and joined the general committee.
Peter Gilmour, the Seaton secretary said: “After leading Workington Town to promotion Les stood down from his position as club chairman and after a short break has now returned to the game with the club hr served with distinction as a player.
“We are delighted that Les is ‘coming home’ to strengthen our club committee as we prepare for an exciting debut season in the National Conference.”
A free scoring winger in his playing days with Seaton, Smallwood was also a talented long jumper.
On his return he said: “There’s never been a better time than now to be involved with Seaton Rangers. It’s a club I played with for many seasons and now I get the chance to watch my son Dom represent the Rangers.
“The club has a fantastic group of volunteers that are steering the ship and I’m looking forward to being able to contribute to that.
“Above all I’m looking forward to being able to give something back to a club that’s given me so much and I can’t wait to see what the 2022 season brings.”
He had stood down at the Town annual shareholders meeting on December 8 after his second spell as a club director.
Smallwood had first served as a director between 2002 and 2009 before linking up with Workington Reds football club on their commercial operations.
Rugby league has always been his first love and after returning to the Town board in 2016 he was appointed chairman two years later.
