Carlisle will get back into action on Saturday at Warwick Road after a nightmare month in a hugely disappointing season.
Racked by injuries early in the campaign, Carlisle have recently fallen foul of Covid which have combined to lose them four matches.
They sit bottom of North One West as a result of points deductions and can only hope the worst is well behind them and they get on with the job of accumulating points.
With another league reorganisation coming into operation next season, fortunately, Carlisle don’t have to worry about the prospect of being demoted with no relegation being enforced at this level.
Tomorrow they start what they hope will be a big finish to the season with a home game against Birkenhead Park.
The visitors sit solidly midtable with 40 points from their 13 games, which includes nine wins.
As always much will depend on the strength of the teams the two clubs are able to put out.
Penrith
Penrith are on the road to Broughton Park after last week’s 22-7 defeat at Kendal.
They will see it as an opportunity to get back to winning ways against a team who are fourth bottom with only three wins so far.
Team manager Mike Sanderson said: “The Penrith side could come away from Mine Bridge with their heads up and know if they play anything like that at Broughton Park this weekend they will come away with the spoils. Every one of the 18-man squad got stuck in and played their part.”
Although it was their best away performance of the season it was still not good enough to beat a good, well organised Kendal side on their own patch. It was good enough to run them close in the first half and make their supporters nervous at halftime but not to wrest control from them in the second half which is where the game was decided.
Kendal
Up to second in the table, Kendal have the biggest game in North Two West when they host third-placed Firwood Waterloo with a six-point advantage.
Cockermouth/St Benedict’s
North Two West provides a Cumbrian derby as Cockermouth host St. Benedict’s after both had contrasting matches last week.
Cockermouth went down 76-7 at 100% leaders Anselmians while Benny’s had a tight contest with Orrell before losing 25-20 at Mirehouse.
Unfortunately, Cockermouth’s position was not helped by picking up injuries during their game and that will affect selection this weekend.
Keswick
Keswick were short of seven regulars as they went under 42-10 at Rochdale and expect to have a few back tomorrow when they host Leigh. They are a point and a place behind their visitors in a fifth v fourth clash.
Aspatria
Aspatria have a big game at Bower Park in Durham Northumberland One when they entertain fourth-placed South Shields Westoe. The Black Reds put up a decent show at leaders Northern last week before losing 17-5 and do face a difficult task in hauling back the teams above them to finish fourth.
Games in the Cumbria League: Creighton v Hawcoat Park; Furness v Millom; Whitehaven v Egremont; Wigton v Workington.
