Copeland Council is offering support for residents this winter with a series of drop-in advice sessions at The Whitehaven Foyer.
The events will be attended by organisations able to advise on finance, health, energy, employment and age-related services, among many other topics.
Copeland Council’s Social Prescribing team has organised the events.
Copeland’s Portfolio Holder for Environment, Place and Inclusive Communities, Coun Andy Pratt, said: “Covid has already created many challenges for residents, and we are now seeing worrying price rises for food and fuel.
“The pandemic has also contributed towards some people becoming more isolated and lonely, and many are wondering how they are going to manage in the winter months.
“By providing a warm cup of tea and access to our partners, we can help people get the right advice at the right time.
“Residents can find out about issues such as energy-saving advice and equipment, financial hardship, debt issues, food provision, keeping healthy and safe in winter, staying socially connected and much more.”
The drop-in winter advice sessions run from 10am until noon and 1pm until 3pm on Tuesday, February 1, and will continue every Tuesday and Thursday at those times for all of February. All sessions are in The Whitehaven Foyer on Irish Street, Whitehaven.
The groups in attendance could include the following, depending on the day:
- Citizens Advice Copeland
- The Credit Union
- Cold to Cosy Homes
- Copeland Age and Advice Service
- The NHS
- Copeland Council’s Social Prescribing team
- West Cumbria Carers
- Always Another Way
- Skills 4 You
- Fit 4 Life
EON Energy will also be at some sessions to talk about the free energy measures that can be installed through the Green Homes Grant Scheme currently available.
No appointments are needed and measures will be in place to ensure the events are as Covid safe as possible.
Coun Pratt added: “These events will be really useful, so please come along to say hello and find out how we, and our partners, can be of help to you.”
