Two Cumbrian legal firms will donate their legal fees associated with making a simple will to charity.

Throughout February, Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors and Brockbanks Solicitors will donate their usual legal fees associated with making a simple will to support Hospice at Home West Cumbria.

Appointments to make a new will or amend an existing one can be made at Brockbanks Solicitors in Whitehaven, Cockermouth, and Keswick, as well as Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors Cockermouth office.

For simple wills, it costs £150 and £200 for a mirror will. Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors and Brockbanks Solicitors’ will writing teams will take the donation on your behalf during your appointment. If your will arrangements are more complex, the legal advisor will provide a cost estimate for the fees over this price.

Lucy Fuggle, Senior Solicitor for Brockbanks said: “My mum was a hospice nurse for years before she retired, and I always admired the important role she played in both the lives of patients and their families.

“Having supported Hospice at Home West Cumbria for some years now, I know what an invaluable part they have to play in peoples’ end of life care. Providing that very much needed support at a difficult time of a patient’s life and that of their family. I could never see myself assisting in a nursing capacity and feel supporting Wills Month is a way for me to help in a different way.”

Julie Monk, CEO for Hospice at Home West Cumbria said; “Many of us put off making a Will, it never seems to be a priority and often gets pushed further down the list of things to do. We want to encourage you to make February the month that you make it a priority and get your affairs in order.

“By making a will during Hospice at Home West Cumbria’s Wills Month, not only are you ensuring your wishes are adhered to, but you are also supporting the future of hospice care across West Cumbria. We are extremely grateful to Cartmell Shepherd and Brockbanks Solicitors for supporting us in raising awareness about the importance of having a will in place.”

Claire Wilson, Associate Solicitor for Cartmell Shepherd said: “We are thrilled to be supporting Hospice at Home West Cumbria this February through the Wills Month scheme. As a firm, we have supported the charity in many ways over the past few years and it is a pleasure to continue this.”

Hospice at Home West Cumbria provides high-quality palliative and end of life care to people living in West Cumbria. They provide home nursing, emotional support, complementary therapies, and specialist lymphoedema care. The charity must raise over £1 million each year to deliver its services. One in four of its patients are cared for thanks to gifts left in wills.

Appointments can be made by calling Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors on (01900 876123) or emailing [email protected]. There are a limited number of appointments available each week throughout February in Whitehaven (01946 692194), Cockermouth (01900 827222) and Keswick (01768 772125) branches of Brockbanks Solicitors.

Call the appropriate branch or email [email protected] to book your appointment.
