Cleator Moor Celtic’s game at Pilkington was abandoned after 19 minutes following a serious injury to a home player.
Play was suspended while the player was treated but after an hour, and with no sign of an ambulance, the referee and teams were agreed the game should be abandoned.
Celtic manager Martin Mahone said: “It was quite horrific really. Two of their players jumped and clashed heads badly, but if that wasn’t enough one of them landed awkwardly and suffered a severe leg break.
“He was concussed for a while but because of the severity of the leg injury could not be moved and clearly he was in a lot of pain.
“After an hour there was still no sign of the ambulance and the sensible response was to call off the game.
“We went in the club house and the Pilkington club were very good, giving the lads jugs of beer and they fed them and all the while the lad is still on the pitch. It was about two hours before the ambulance arrived.
“There have been messages flying between the two clubs throughout Sunday and it appears the injured player has had an operation and is recovering. We’ve wished him all the best.”
Celtic had actually started the game well with both Callum Birdsall and Jay Wetherill going close before the injury.
“We go to Daisy Hill on Saturday and that’s going to be a big one for us. They are six points ahead of us and we have a game in hand,” said Mahone.
