Cumbria Crack has been given a first look inside a new £7 million care home in Carlisle that could create up to 120 jobs.
Eden Manor Care Home, on Langrigg Road overlooking Chances Park, is an 80-bed home providing specialist residential care.
Operated by new care company Silk Healthcare and redeveloped by Angela Swift Developments, is set to open at the end of July.
It will boast a hair and beauty salon, a licensed cafe, a minibus for days out, home-cooked food, full en suite facilities and landscaped gardens.
“We are an outstanding care home at an affordable price,” says Donna Laird, manager at the home.
Silk Healthcare is also a “family-run business”, she says.
Angela Swift Developments paid an undisclosed fee for the care home at auction in November 2019, beating a number of other bidders to the purchase after Cumbria County Council closed the building early in the year and transferred residents to the nearby Burnrigg Court centre.
Langrigg House was demolished early last year and was replaced by Eden Manor Care Home.
At the commissioning stage, the home is expected to recruit 20-30 staff, with up to 120 jobs expected to be created when the home is operating at full capacity.
The home will be unique in that it will have a resident relations manager, similar to a hotel guest relations manager, who will welcome residents into the home.
“When you go into a new home it can be quite daunting, for somebody,” says Tony Grundy, the home’s resident relations manager.
“You think of end of life and you think this is it, but it’s not. We want them to come in and feel at ease.
“I will check in with them and be the families’ contact if something is wrong. I will be making sure they are okay or if they have any concerns.”
The home will also offer sun terrace balconies and a Garden of Eden for residents to enjoy.
