New-look Sands Centre

A call has gone out for a catering operator to take on the facilities for five years at the new £27 million Sands Centre in Carlisle.

The leisure centre is currently undergoing the revamp, which is scheduled to be completed by this autumn.

The new look Sands Centre will include a restaurant, bars and coffee shops.

GLL, which runs the venue, is looking for an experienced catering operator.

It will bring the city’s swimming pool, leisure facilities and entertainment centre under one roof.

The firm said it was estimated that more than a million people will come through its doors a year.

GLL said: “The successful catering partner will also have possibilities for additional revenue streams outside of predefined spaces, including vending opportunities both internally and across additional GLL facilities citywide and catering provisions at external GLL events, including The Great Cumbrian Run.

“In addition to providing a high-quality service with great value product options, a key outcome also sought by this expression of interest is to provide meaningful opportunity to the community – whether through employment, social inclusion, economic or environmental benefits.”

Expressions of interest in the five-year contract must be submitted by February 20.
