A South Cumbrian singing solicitor is set to embark on a 24-hour non-stop karaoke marathon for charity.
Stuart Bailey, 48, of Grange-over-Sands, is undertaking the challenge for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
The senior solicitor with Thomson Hayton Winkley in Windermere, said: “A lot of my friends have raised money for charities by running marathons.
“Whilst I am sporty, I don’t like long distance running. But I love singing, especially karaoke, so I have come up with the idea to do a 24-hour karaoke marathon.”
He sings karaoke regularly, mainly in the Keg and Kitchen, and said he took part in the Cumbria Facebook Karaoke Group during lockdowns.
The singing marathon will start at 9pm on Friday at the Gin Pig Bar, underneath the Keg and Kitchen, and will also be streamed on Youtube.
Stuart said he has been rehearsing. He added: “I’ve been practising in the car on the way to my commute to Windermere. I’ve been watching videos on Youtube and I have been practising in the Gin Pig Bar where I will be doing the karaoke.”
He loves singing Elvis on karaoke, but he added that his favourite number was John Denver’s Take me Home, Country Roads. He added: “It’s my favourite because I love singing karaoke songs where the audience can join in.”
“Being a teenage is a difficult and exciting time but imagine being a teenager and then being diagnosed with cancer? Teenage Cancer Trust does amazing work to help teenagers in this situation.”
He estimates that during the 24 hours, he will sing around 360 songs. He added: “There will be pauses between each song and I will take a five-minute break every hour.
“I’ve been putting together a songlist, mostly of song I know but people can make requests.
“Someone has already asked me to sing Tina Turner and my wife wants me to sing Chandelier by Sia!
“February 4 is an appropriate time to start the marathon as it is World Cancer Day.
