
An additional £30,000 has been set aside in Carlisle City Council’s budget to support The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Carlisle.
The budget, agreed at last night’s Council meeting, included extra funding to pay towards Jubilee celebrations planned for the city including an event planned in Bitts Park on June 5.
The Jubilee celebrations are part of the council’s overall events programme for 2022. The programme will see the return of the Fireshow and Christmas Lights Switch-On as well as other popular events including the City of Lights and open-air markets. Dates for diaries include:
- Thursday April 14 – Monday, April 18 – Easter International Market in the city centre.
- Sunday, June 5 – The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Bitts Park.
- Thursday, June 9 – Sunday, June 12 – Hawker Festival in the city centre.
- Friday, July 22 – Olly Murs concert in Bitts Park.
- Saturday, July 23 – Paloma Faith concert in Bitts Park.
- Sunday, July 24 – Tom Jones concert in Bitts Park.
- Saturday, August 13 – Fake Festival in Bitts Park.
- Thursday, August 25 – Monday, August 29 – Carlisle Summer International Market in the city centre.
- Friday, October 21 – Sunday, October 23 – City of Lights in Carlisle Cathedral, Tullie House Gardens and Carlisle Castle (linking in with the Hadrian’s Wall 1900 Festival).
- Saturday, November 5 – Fireshow in Bitts Park.
- Sunday, November 20 – Carlisle Christmas Lights Switch-On in the city centre.
