Two men had to be rescued after an unplanned night on the fells in an almost 10-hour operation, including a helicopter.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team were called at around 8am on Monday by Cumbria police to Little Narrowcove.
A statement by the team said: “One was struggling in particular due to a leg injury and was becoming very cold.
“Due to the risks to the casualties, remote location and the potential for a long and arduous stretcher carry, helicopter assistance was requested.
“Coastguard helicopter Rescue 199 attended and tried to access the location of the casualties in Little Narrowcove but was thwarted by high winds and turbulence.”
The helicopter was able to take mountain rescuers and their equipment to Ill Crag, so they could reach the casualty faster.
One of the men was able to walk off the fell after he warmed up, but the other man had to be put on a stretcher.
The statement added: “After a very difficult carry to the valley bottom, both casualties were transferred into the helicopter for onward transport to hospital.”
Also involved were 10 mountain rescue team members from Duddon and Furness and four from Keswick.
The rescue finished at around 5.50pm and involved 20 members of Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team.
