Workington and District Sunday League reduced to single game

Workington and District Sunday League was reduced to just one game by some atrocious weather.

The players of Deer Orchard and Salterbeck were complimented for sticking at it on Wakefield Road and seeing it through to the finish.

Orchard probably wished they hadn’t because the Premier League leaders were beaten 3-1, even helping the visitors by conceding an own goal.

Carl McCoy and Luke Montgomery added the other goals for Salterbeck with Mike Graham providing the Orchard consolation.

The Divisional Cup games for both the Premier Division and First Division should have started but all were wiped out by the dreadful weather.

News, as well, that Maryport Athletic are playing their home games on the pitch at Emmerdale Road, Maryport below the Boys Club.

The West quarter finals of the Sunday County Cup dominate next week’s fixtures and two are in Workington League territory with the other two having Egremont League ground advantage.

The ties are: Lowca v Northside (ko 10.30am, referee Tommy Linford); Salterbeck v Royal Oak, Whitehaven (ko 1.30pm, ref Ken Bragg); Mirehouse v Maryport Athletic (ko 10.30am, ref Neil McCrickard) and JJ;s v Thornhill (ko 1.30pm, ref Karl Sanderson).

Premier League: Sun Inn v Blue Bell.

Divisional Cup: Dearham v Deer Orchard; The Junction v Highfield; Flimby Social v Senhouse Street.
