Whitehaven half-back Ciaran Walker has been chosen in the Championship team of the month as selected by Rugby League World.

Walker is among three Cumbrians in the side joining Workington Town hooker Callum Phillips and the Border Raiders second row forward Ellis Robson.

In addition both Walker and Barrow’s Brad Walker figure prominently in the season’s leading Championship points scorers.

Brad Walker is second in the goal-kicking with 65 behind James Meadows (London Broncos) on 77 with Ciaran Walker on 51 in fourth.

But in points scoring Ciaran Walker is second behind Meadows (182) with 138 while Brad Walker is third on 136.

Ciaran Walker is in a Whitehaven squad of only 19 for this afternoon’s Championship game at Newcastle Thunder (4pm ko).

Ellis Nixon is the one absentee from last week as he starts a five-match suspension.

  • Whitehaven: Bickerdike, Brennan, Brown, Burns, Callander, Eccleston, Holgate, Holliday, Kellett, McQuistan, Newbegin, B Pearce, J Pearce, Shackley, Smith, Todd, Walker, Weatherill, Williamson.
