Three Carlisle play areas are to be upgraded as part of £250,000 allocated in this year’s council budget.
Esk Road in Lowry Hill, Briar Bank at St Ann’s and Windsor Way are all set to receive funding.
Conservative city and county councillor for Belah Gareth Ellis said: “We announced £250,000 extra for play areas this year in our budget, the biggest single investment I can remember. It’s amazing some of the improvements we’ve now got lined up for the children of Belah.
“When the council some years ago tried to remove the Belah Park play area the local community fought back, and we now have a well-used and fantastic community playground. Esk Road play area is on the route between St Ann’s and Kingmoor junior and infant schools, but it desperately needs an overhaul, and is placed perfectly for younger children to use on the way to and back from school.”
Mr Ellis added: “We are planning to make Briar Bank the best play area in north Carlisle. But this isn’t going to be our play area, it’s going to be the children’s and we are going to get them involved in deciding what type of equipment they want to see there.
“We are developing a Big Belah Day to discuss how we can improve Belah for everyone and will have more details very soon.”
