Plans to convert Maryport Maritime Museum into an art gallery and exhibition space have been given the green light.
A proposal was put forward to change the use of the building as the museum is set to move into Christ Church, which was bought by Allerdale council last year.
The museum building, on the junction of Well Lane and Senhouse Street, will be transformed into an art gallery, with a flat upstairs for an artist in residence.
The application was lodged by Allerdale council and was approved by the authority’s development panel last week.
The building was formerly the Queen’s Head pub and was converted into a museum in 1975.
Allerdale council bought Christ Church last year.
