Penrith continue to struggle at home in the Northern League, conceding four goals for the second game in a row.
The latest Division One clash at Frenchfields against Crook Town didn’t even provide the consolation of a home goal.
They had previously lost 4-1 against Newcastle Benfield, while sandwiched in between had been a merited 1-1 draw at Seaham Red Star.
Chairman Billy Williams said: “I’m afraid the lack of consistency means we continue to struggle near in the danger area and we have just been unable to get ourselves clear.
“It’s not absolutely clear how many teams are going to be relegated. It could be one, two or three so to be on the safe side we want to finish fourth bottom.
“But it is shaping up to be a fight at the bottom with four clubs really involved – ourselves, Bishop Auckland, Northallerton and Billingham Town.
“After a decent effort at Seaham it was disappointing that we were so poor back at home and we have to be better than that.”
Penrith are back at home on Wednesday and Saturday but the mid-week game against drop zone rivals Bishop Auckland isn’t a six pointer as it’s in the new League Cup competition.
“It’s a big one on Saturday at home to Guisborough because we went there and won so to complete a double would be a real boost.
“I think the Cup game in mid-week might allow Chris (Humphrey) the chance to look at players who might not have been involved much, just to see what options he has,” said Williams.
The bottom four currently looks like this – Bishop Auckland, played 29, points 26; Penrith, 29, 25; Northallerton 30, 22; Billingham 30, 22.
