Pupils at Keswick School voted on the issues that matter to students.
On February 25, the students cast their ballot as a part of the national Make Your Mark campaign.
The vote, organised by the UK Youth Council, offered students the opportunity to decide which issues will be prioritised in the campaigns undertaken by the UK Youth Parliament in the coming year.
In past years, Youth Parliament votes have highlighted issues such as climate protection, mental health and the living wage.
Students had the choice between seven issues: COVID-19 recovery, education and learning, environment, health and wellbeing, jobs, money, home and opportunities, our rights and democracy and poverty.
More than 1,000 votes were cast by students. The environment topic won, with 260 votes. In second place came health, collecting 213 votes. Education came third with 189. These votes were counted by a team of year 12 politics students, reflecting the importance of young people in this democratic process.
Keswick School’s vote will influence the decisions made at the UK Youth Parliament, which is due to hold its next elections in March.
