Copeland Council has created a series of colourful maps to help guide tourists around the area’s towns and attractions.
There is a map for each of Egremont, Whitehaven, Millom and Haverigg, and Cleator Moor and Cleator.
The maps show local tourist attractions, sporting venues, car parks, churches and other places of interest. Each has a larger-scale map of the area on the reverse.
Copeland Mayor, Mike Starkie, said: “This is another great initiative that encourages new people to come to Copeland. The maps will help them discover what we have to offer in terms of fascinating history, first-class landscapes, wildlife, walking, sport and fun family attractions.”
The maps will be available from shops and visitor centres throughout the borough over the coming weeks. Businesses who would like copies should email [email protected]. They can also be found here: https://www.copeland.gov.uk/welcome-back-campaign.
The initiative is part of Copeland’s Welcome Back programme – £159,000 of government funding being spent on measures to make Copeland’s towns and villages safe and attractive to visit this summer. It has already seen the installation of new seating and tables, litter picking kits and promotional video footage of the borough.
The Welcome Back fund aims to boost the look and feel of high streets and seaside towns. The funding helps councils prepare for the safe return of shoppers and tourists following the pandemic.
It builds on the £50m Reopening High Street Safely Fund allocated to councils in 2020. The Welcome Back fund is part of the European Regional Development Fund.
