Seaton Rangers made it two out of two when they beat local rivals Hensingham 16-14 in the NCL Third Division.
The League newcomers had also beaten their Copeland hosts by two points when they met in a pre-season friendly.
This was a cracking contest with League points at stake and in front of a big, appreciative crowd it went all the way to the wire.
Seaton were first onto the score sheet when powerful forward JJ Key drove through to touchdown and Dom Smallwood converted.
But Hensingham exerted strong pressure and deservedly got back on terms just before half-time when Taylor Richardson forced his way over and Noel Braithwaite added the conversion for a 6-6 score-line.
It was the hosts who looked as though they would go on to win it as they forged clear in the second-half with tries from Scott Egan and player coach Jessie Joe Parker.
Crucially, as it turned out, neither try was converted.
Seaton rallied splendidly, coming back to win the match as Levi Wallbank and then Ryan Heron crossed for tries.
Smallwood converted the Wallbanks try to cut the deficit to 14-12 and seven minutes from the end centre Heron sliced through for the winning try.
In the end it boiled down to two goals from Smallwood as opposed to one from Hensingham’s Braithwaite.
The third Cumbrian side Millom crashed 46-8 at home to Waterhead Warriors with Niall Harris and Jonty Peters scoring the tries for the Woollybacks.
