People across The Bay are being invited to get involved in a project aimed at inspiring organisers to manage outdoor events in a sustainable way.
Morecambe Bay Partnership is inviting the outdoor community across The Bay and surrounding areas to get involved with ‘Clear The Bay By Day’ project and contribute their expertise to inspire organisers to manage outdoor events in a sustainable way
The team at the partnership recognises the many positives that outdoor events bring, from improving individuals’ health and wellbeing and the benefits to local tourism, but wants to ensure these events are organised without causing damage to the unique and special environment of Morecambe Bay.
Collaborating with the outdoor community, the project seeks to create a useful resource for outdoor event organisers and pull together organisations that are already running events in a more sustainable way to inspire and motivate others.
Tom, who created The Bay Limestone Round, a 55-mile running challenge around Morecambe Bay, said: “Leading by example is the best way of changing things for the future. The environments that we use are actually quite fragile and so leaving them as we find them (reducing erosion for example) is really important.”
Many local event companies have been involved with the project so far, including T2 events, The Lap Windermere, Ourea Events, Greener Miles Running and other organisations like Dirtbags Climbing, Trees Not Tees, Green Small Business and Trash Free Trails. They are pooling their collective knowledge and expertise to build the resource.
The Partnership’s Beach Care Assistant, Lauren, who is leading the project, said: “If you’re an organiser of a 5km fun run, a trail race, fell run, triathlon, swim event, cycle sportive, challenge event or a festival, we would love to hear from you!”
The project is being funded by the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) and you can find out more here.
If you are an event organiser, or a participant, and would like to get involved, contact Lauren at [email protected] or call 07505962212.
