Beer festival returns to Kendal this Easter

Bowness Bay Brewing is bringing 40 specially selected beers to Kendal for an Easter beer festival.

The award-winning brewery’s line-up will include beers and lagers seldom seen in Cumbria, while festival-goers will enjoy live music every night and food by Kendal’s Food From the Fells.

Brewery owner Richard Husbands said they were hoping for a busy event and party atmosphere at the brewery’s Castle Mills location, near Kendal town centre.

“We’ll have fantastic food and drink plus live music to entertain everyone,” he said. “We’ve got a good supply of each beer and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We hope everyone who comes down will have a great time.”

Richard asked Sandy and Sarah Williamson, of online beer shop and wholesalers The Beer Haul to select the festival beers from their extensive knowledge of craft breweries.

Sandy said they chose as wide a range as possible from all over the country.

“We looked at what the breweries had and tried to pick the most interesting choices, especially ones which wouldn’t normally be seen in Kendal and Cumbria,” he said. “There should be something for everybody.”

Beers range from Chocolate and Ginger Stout by Flash House Brewing Co in North Shields, to hop and citrus heavy double IPAs by Overtone Brewing Co in Glasgow and Almasty Brewing Co in Newcastle upon Tyne. Golden session beers and fruity sours will join the line-up.

One of the few beers which is being brought back from a previous Bowness Bay festival is Liverpool Brewing Company’s Team Toxic: Black Custard milk stout, which sold out at its first appearance in Kendal thanks to its delicious, smooth and custardy flavour.

Bowness Bay’s own beers, including the best-selling Swan Blonde and World Beer Awards winners Steamer IPA, low alcohol Swan Free and Helles Lager, will also be served.

The festival takes place at the brewery’s tap room, the Barrel House and The Venue, a rustic, Scandi-inspired entertainment, weddings and party venue.

Bowness Bay Brewing’s Easter Beer Festival is on Friday, April 15, Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17 from noon until 11pm, with live music from 8pm by The Ride (Friday), Boomerang (Saturday) and Moonshine Shakers (Sunday).
