A venture which aims to reduce carbon from building sites has won an award for its work.

Carlisle-based The Rebuild Site CIC scooped the innovation accolade at the Cumbria Social Enterprise Awards for its work on circular economy in the construction industry.

The Rebuild Site was also runner-up in the New Social Enterprise Award category, recognising its work developing partnerships and support of community organisations in its first 10 months of operation.

The Rebuild Site redirects surplus materials from building sites, preventing usable materials from going into skips and making them available to tradespeople and members of the public at a reduced cost. Materials are also donated to charities and community groups for free.

Rebuild Site director Maisie Hunt said: “The whole Rebuild Team are delighted. Not-for-profit organisations are by nature innovative, as we work to make the world a better place for our communities, often with limited resources. We are therefore over the moon that our cutting-edge work has been recognised at such an early stage in our developing business. We would like to thank the CSEP for their support and for having faith in our venture.”

The Cumbria Social Enterprise Partnership annual awards celebrate and honour all the work carried out by social enterprises across Cumbria.

Rebuild Site director Emma Porter added: “We are thrilled to have received this recognition at an early stage in our business journey. We would like to thank all of our supporters and volunteers for their continued support in helping us to get to where we are today.”
