Five women are set to take on a charity challenge on Saturday in memory of their friend.
Julie Bland, Sarah Boyle, Julie Dugdale, Lynn Nelson and Lisa Smith are undertaking the Five do Five Challenge around Windermere in memory of Amanda Wilson to raise money for charities that were close to her heart.
The six women first met 20 years ago when our sons started school.
The fundraisers said: “We quickly formed a special bond. Amanda was a fantastic mother to her five boys. Her heart was big, smile cheeky and was always there for us.
“Amanda was a keen sailor, Windermere was very close to her heart. She was chief instructor, and commodore of Royal Windermere Yacht Club. She was also an instructor and volunteer at Blackwell Sailing, Bowness, where her passion and enthusiasm helped local people with disabilities to sail.”
They are raising cash for Blackwell Sailing, Cancer Care North Lancashire and South Cumbria and Paddlers for Life.
On Saturday, the friends will set off from Low Wray on the west side of the Lake, run towards Ambleside then down to Low Wood Marina. They will then get into two dragon boats kindly supported by Windermere Paddlers for Life and paddle down to Royal Windermere Yacht Club in Bowness.
They will then transfer to a yacht to sail and motor down to Fell Foot Park, accompanied by a flotilla of youth sailors from Windermere Yacht Club.
From Fell Foot they will swim to Newby Bridge and on to their fifth and final stage, which will see the group walk from Newby Bridge back up to Low Wray where they started.
