
Today is an historic day for Cumbria as people go to the polls.
Polling stations opened at 7am for people to choose the councillors who will represent them on the two new unitary authorities due to come into being next April.
Westmorland and Furness Council will replace Eden, South Lakes and Barrow authorities and the county council.
Cumberland Council will cover the area currently under control of Allerdale, Carlisle and Copeland.

Votes for Cumberland Council will be counted overnight and the count for Westmorland and Furness Council will take place tomorrow. We’ll be bringing you the results as they come in.
