The base for Barrow’s 26-12 victory over county rivals Workington Town was established in the first 25 minutes.
They built a 22-0 lead and did not score again until the last minute when Dan Toal finished off great work by Carl Forster and Charlie Emslie.
In between while Town had played much better than they had in the first half and scored two tries to suggest they could stage an exciting comeback. But Toal’s 79th minute touchdown ended all thoughts.
Barrow had played exceptionally well in the first quarter of the game and went in front on only five minutes.
The ball was moved smartly along the line and Town were found short of numbers as Brett Carter dived over.
On 10 minutes it was former Whitehaven player coach Carl Forster who found Town wanting in defence who barged through two tacklers to touch down under the posts, Jake Carter converted.
The third try came on 19 minutes and this time it was Ryan Johnston whose kick over the top came back off a post straight into his arms and he was over in a flash. Jake Carter converted.
Luke Cresswell scored the fourth on 25 minutes after Josh Wood had hacked the ball on and his team-mate was first onto it over the line.
A penalty on 33 minutes from Jake Carter completed the scoring in the first half which had rarely seen Town pose any serious threat.
But it was a different story in the second-half when Town were the dominant side and with more possession they fully tested the Barrow defence.
They needed a quick score but it didn’t arrive until the 63rd minute when the impressive Hull KR centre Will Tate charged over and Carl Forber kicked the goal.
Tate set up the second try on 71 minutes when he broke through and put Evan Simons over for Forber to convert.
But that was as close as they came and when Forster pulled in a clutch of Town defenders before slipping a pass to Emslie he went 40 metres to set up Toal for the final points of the afternoon.
