Ruben Jerome has re-signed for a third season with Workington Reds and manager Danny Grainger couldn’t be happier.
There had been much speculation since the end of the season that the centre-forward – younger brother of Luton Town’s Camron Jerome – might be moving on because of the travelling involved.
Huddersfield-based Jerome, 23, was signed by Grainger ahead of his second season in charge at Borough Park but which was voided very early on in the campaign.
Player and manager have been in talks after Jerome indicated he was willing to stay and news of the signing has been well received by fans.
Jerome said: “I’m buzzing to be coming back this year. It gives me a chance to put last season’s disappointment right and to help the club get back to where it should be.”
Grainger added: “This is fantastic news for the club and the team. Ruben is a great guy to have in the squad off the pitch and a massive player for us on it.
“He has shown great commitment to the club after turning down a few offers closer to home which would have been easier for him and shows what the club, players and fans mean to him.
“I’m looking forward to having a full season with him and seeing him scoring plenty of goals as we go after our aims.”
Jerome had hamstring issues during the season but he had a run of games in which he excelled. If he can find the consistency in fitness and performance he could be Reds’ most valuable asset.
