A Penrith man will be sentenced by a judge after admitting affray and assaulting a police officer.

John Bidgood, 48, appeared in the dock at Carlisle Crown Court yesterday.

During a short hearing in front of Judge Nicholas Barker, Bidgood admitted two offences – affray and the second involving the assault of a police officer.

The charges arise out of an incident in Penrith on May 5 last year.

No details about the two offences were outlined by the prosecution.

Judge Barker adjourned the case for the preparation of a probation service pre-sentence report.

The court also heard Bidgood’s defence team was requesting a specialist psychiatric report in the coming weeks.

Bidgood, of Holyoake Terrace, Penrith, is due to be sentenced at the crown court on July 22 and in the meantime he was granted unconditional bail by the judge.
