Police have confirmed that a tanker which overturned near Eaglesfield has been recovered – but the A5086 remains closed.
The tanker overturned yesterday morning and people in the areas of Eaglesfield Paddle Primary Academy, Brandlingill, Low Lorton, High Lorton and Littlethwaite were advised to keep their windows and doors shut as a precaution.
They can now leave windows and doors open should they wish to.
The tanker container contains 60 per cent nitric acid.
The tanker’s recovery was supported by police, the Environment Agency, HAZMAT, and specialist officers from Cumbria Fire and Rescue.
The A5086 was damaged during the incident. It will remain closed while repairs are carried out.
A police spokesman said: “Officers working at the incident would again like to thank residents for their patience and understanding during the recovery of the tanker.”
