A woman from Cumbria is completing a European pilgrims’ trail in her wheelchair to raise money for charity.
Carol Hall, 51, from Carlisle, will set off from Cumbria tomorrow to Portugal where she will wheel solo along the Portuguese route of the Camino de Santiago in her manual wheelchair.
Carol has been in a wheelchair for 20 years and says the journey will be a chance to celebrate her former achievements (she wheeled the length of Hadrian’s Wall as well as the Great North Run just last year) and also learn about other people, their lives and beliefs.
She is undertaking the trip to raise money for Parkinson’s UK.
Her father Doug Ratcliffe, who has the condition, has benefited from the charity’s support, including Parkinson’s specific exercise classes and social and medical support.
Carol’s Camino will start in Porto in Portugal and she will Wheel to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, a distance of over 160 miles.
People can follow Carol’s travels through her facebook page WheelieMum on Youtube or on her website www.wheeliemum.org.uk
