The crews remained on the scene for the next 24 hours and worked with the site team to retrieve the waste from the warehouse to extinguish and safely dispose of it.

At 12.38am, crews were also called to AW Jenkinson’s warehouse at Hespin Wood, Rockcliffe, in North Carlisle. The fire involved machinery which spread to a building containing wood chip.

Four fire engines, a water bowser and aerial ladder, plus two Scottish fire engines attended. Investigations are ongoing to identify a cause.

No one was injured as a result of the incidents.

Both fires have now been confirmed as fully extinguished as of 3.40pm yesterday, Friday June 17.

Fire crews will continue to monitor the sites as a precautionary measure.
