Members of the public are to have another opportunity to discuss the county council’s plans to replace the Windermere car ferry with a quicker, electric model.
The new boat is to replace the existing ‘Mallard’ ferry, which is more than 30 years old. Mallard’s age has led to decreasing reliability and increasing repair costs.
Like Mallard, the new ferry is to run on wire cables.
A second public information session is to be held. This will take place at Hawskhead Market Hall from 4pm on Thursday, June 23.
Cllr Keith Little, county council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “I am delighted to see the next phase of the plans to replace the Windermere Ferry taking shape.
“The brand-new electric vessel will be much more reliable, with an improved service for users, able to carry more vehicles and passengers every day, whilst reducing emissions.”
Members of the public will be able to discuss the plans with the ferry project team between 4pm and 5.30pm at Thursday’s event. A presentation and question-and-answer session will then take place between 6pm and 7pm.
