Wath Brow and Maryport were celebrating victories in two BARLA Cumbria Youth Cup finals, both played at Lowca.
In the Under-14s showdown the Hornets narrowly came out on top 20-18 against Hensingham.
The Under-16s was a bit more clear-cut as Maryport romped to a 48-10 win over Kells.
In the Under-14s game, Wath Brow had made a flying start with an unconverted try on two minutes from Billy Joe Towers.
After 10 minutes that advantage was increased to 10-0 when Niall Butterworth crossed for the second try which Towers converted.
By the 20th minute, however, Hensingham were level with tries from Tyce Walmsley and Ryan Templeton, one of which was converted by Jackson Smith.
An even game just tilted in Wath Brow’s favour on 25 minutes when Butterworth crossed again for his second try to give his side a 14-10 half-time lead.
Walmsley, who was to emerge as the man of the match, got Hensingham on terms six minutes into the second-half but they couldn’t go on from there and Hornets went back ahead.
Hayden Atkinson scored the fourth Wath Brow try which Towers converted, although Hensingham still weren’t finished.
Ben Clements got over for a try but the conversion attempt to level the scores again was wide.
In the older age group Maryport were always in charge after going ahead on five minutes and enjoying a 26-6 lead at half-time.
Liam Penman scored the opening try, converted by Lewis Moore, and the Allerdale side gradually began to wear down the opposition.
On 16 minutes Oliver Metcalf went over for the second try and was followed five minutes later by Kian Jones, who went on to earn the man of the match. Moore converted.
After 26 minutes Ashtyn Skillen was next to cross the Kells line and at 20-0 Maryport were threatening to run away with the game.
Kells desperately needed a score and they got it on 28 minutes when Corey Chambers crossed and Nathaniel Anderson put over the conversion.
But hopes of a come-back were quickly dashed when Jones scored again on the half hour and Moore added the extras.
